about the audio note ongaku
What can be said about the Audio Note Ongaku? It is a legendary amplifier. Perhaps the most revered valve amp ever built! But can an amplifier held in such high esteem, with such a high price tag to match ever truly live up to the legend? In a word….yes!!
There is good reason why the Ongaku has earned its place in history. It is a Pure Class A Singled Ended valve amplifier that uses the highly regarded 211 / VT-4C triode valve, producing a level of performance that is radically superior to any other current design!
the ongaku
“Ongaku”, literally translates to “the joy of music”. We have had the pleasure of demonstrating the Ongaku to many customers at Audiocounsel, and this is a simple way to describe the experience. We have seen customers laughing in disbelief, joy and astonishment at the resulting music coming from the system. Afterall, isn’t that the power of music? To bring you absolute joy, to move you in indescribable ways? The Ongaku does that, and much more. Often such hype around a product can lead to a let down when you eventually get to hear it – but not in this case!
pure silver.
The ONGAKU is the only integrated amplifier available where Audio Note silver wire has been use exclusively for all internal wiring, including all transformers and power supply connections.
Only the absolute finest components have been used in the Ongaku, including Audio Note 2 watt Tantalum resistors have been used throughout.
All capacitors are either Black Gate Electrolytic or Audio Note (UK) silver foil.
custom built.
All transformers are Audio Note’s own in-house custom designed and manufactured devices; driver and output transformers are fully silver wired AN-Perma 50 nickel C-core and the mains transformer is a fully silver wired HiB double C core.
No integrated amplifier has ever produced the levels of musical purity delivered by the Ongaku.… It is without doubt the finest possible integrated amplifier available today.
It has been specifically engineered for sonic performance rather than technical specification, and fulfils all Audio Note (UK) Level 5 criteria:
- Pure Class A operation
- Zero Negative Feedback
- Single Ended Output Stage
- Valve Rectification
- Directly Heated Triode operation
- Materials and component quality
ongaku review.
Many audiophiles around the world, rightly, consider it one of the ‘Holy Grails’ of audio… and for good reason!
When it was time to really sit down for that serious reviewer time, what amazed me was the sheer solidity of 200 Hz on down (bass). It was stunning and far above that i ever recall with the Japanese Kondo version. In fact the UK Ongaku was so tight, tuneful with layers upon layers of resolution that it achieved.
It is more than just tonality or the harmonic structure; it is the weight, complexity and gestalt of aurally having the instrument within your listening room. There is simply no other way to put it and 1000 more words would not tell you more than that. If you desire true realism, then here it is – Words by Steven R Rochlin (Enjoy the music)
