DYNAVECTOR DRT XV-1S REVIEWS

“An Absolute Sound Golden Ear Winner 2001 & 2006, the improved DRT XV-1S is designed to passionately take your analog listening to a new level! With an eight magnet, dual-stereo coil design and ebony wood stabilizer, the DRT XV-1S offers a supremely musical presentation.”

“This is a five-star moving-coil design. I have little else to say about it, since it is the best of these babies I have ever encountered -ever!! I hate to say this, but, in here and now and until I hear something better, I can hear no flaws at all!”

HARRY PARSON. THE ABSOLUTE SOUND.

“I have listened to many truly excellent moving coils over the years, from van den Hul, Benz/ Cardas, Miyabi, Koestu, Clearaudio and Transfiguration. All of them had undeniable virtues, and some had less admirable tradeoffs … I don’t think any of them had the total quality of the Dynavector DRT XV-1S. With it I hear extraordinary extension, but no moving-coil sizzle or etched highs. Bass is deep and tight, never overblown. Imaging is precise in all dimensions within a huge, deep stage. It is simply the best cartridge I have ever heard.”

WAYNE DONNELLY. ENJOY THE MUSIC.

“The first slab of vinyl on my Orb was Nina Simone’s “My Baby Just Cares for Me” from 1958. This is a mono recording, but I, and a friend who dropped in couldn’t believe it. The image was huge and solid, it even had a hint of depth (no I can’t explain). There was no “left-right” spread of different instruments, just a coherent whole, spread six foot wide in the centre …. Nina Simone was just 25 when this recording was made and she had no right to a voice with such depth and emotion. “Smokey” comes to mind but there was more to it than that, a sense of effortlessness and power under the surface”

“Ricky Lee Jones coo’d and simpered, laughed and snarled, her first (wonderful) album showing the XV-1S prowess in imaging, detail retrieval and of course Jone’s love affair with snappy bass.”

“The DRT XV-1S offers a warm, powerful, detailed and totally unflappable cartridge. It got me closer to the live event than any cartridge or CD Player I’ve heard … it will be sorely missed.”

GEOFF HUSBAND. TNT AUDIO.

“The XV-1 turns conventional wisdom on its head. When I first tried it, in the Well Tempered combination, I was bowled over by the wonderful mid-band transparency and delicacy. Now I’ve spent time with it in my regular Linn/ARO combo, and once again I’m gob-smacked by that gorgeous mid-band”

“It’s that sort of cartridge, quite unique in character, and utterly beguiling in its way … you find yourself caressed by the subtle delicacy, texture and tonality, of a midrange that’s beautifully sweet, devoid of harshness or ‘glare’, and simply sounds ‘more natural’ in the way it layers the contributions of different musical strands.”

“Human voice is invariably one of the toughest test, and here the XV-! is a real star, sounding comfortably more coherent and transparent, and significantly less coloured than other cartridges.”

“It very real charm and ‘natural musicality’ completely won me over … I’m not looking forward to giving it back. Not one little bit.”

DYNAVECTOR DRT XV-1S CARTRIDGE

The XV-1s has a unique magnetic circuit. It comprises 8 small alnico magnets. The magnetic path is then divided into two. In the magnetic gap, a specially designed magnetic flux equalizing piece is the placed. On the front yokes, magnetic stabilizing coils are wound. This produces a more linear magnetic field, and therefore lower output distortion than any existing MC cartridge.

Dynavector’s ongoing research program has pushed the MC performance boundary further with the new XV-1s. The specifications of the new “s” model remain the same as the XV-1. However a significant upgrade in both magnetic and body materials have achieved a startling improvement in imaging, and a sound “as smooth as silk”over the entire frequency range.
