phono stages

Our Phono Stage Range

We have put together a range of phono stages, to cover a range of budgets. Starting at the relatively modest Edwards Audio Moving Magnet phono stages, and moving up into Puresound and Audion’s valve equipped phono stages, as well as Audio Note’s simply astonishing range which represent the best musical performance we can find. We will happily suggest something to maximise the potential performance of your entire system as well as enhancing your turntable itself.

edwards audio apprentice.

The Edwards Audio Apprentice MM phono stage is derived from the popular Edwards Audio MM1 and uses a similar circuit topology with passive treble and active bass equalisation.

Unusually at this price level it uses a second stage amplifier to buffer the equalisation network and ensure a low output impedance.

edwards audio mm1.

The Edwards Audio MM1 Mk2 Phono Stage is a dedicated moving magnet (MM) or high output moving coil (HOMC) RIAA phono stage. Based around the original MM1.PSU1  it has been enhanced in performance with an improved internal PSU and better op-amps. It is unique at the price, with its fully RoHs compliant gold plated custom made double sided PCB’s, folded steel casework with back lit dispaly and 9mm machined frame. It also benefits form TALK Electronics’ buying power with it’s use of 1% thin metal film melf resistors from Vishey plus Panasonic FM series PSU caps and Vishay polyester/polypropylene film capacitors throughout. The RIAA. Equalisation is a rare combination of active bass and passive treble sections with an accuracy that  is within 0.25dB across the audio band and signal to noise is very low at -87dB A-weighted. The circuit topology has a totally buffered output section with a very low output impedance to reduce cable effects and improve output drive.

Attention to detail also extends to the custom made plug top power supply, this is unique at this price level for its use of a split rail design using + and – DC power outputs for maximum rejection of RF noise coupled with maximum dynamic range and overload margin. It also uses a gold plated custom made PCB with high quality diodes and snubber caps. This is no normal ‘off the shelf’ PSU as used by the competition.

puresound p10.

The P10 phono amplifier is intended to meet the requirements of audio enthusiasts who still enjoy the distinctive strengths and high quality of reproduction that can be derived from vinyl records.  It is compatible with moving magnet and high output moving coil cartridges.  Low output moving coil cartridges will require the use of an additional step-up device or matching transformer.  Full output from the P10 is sufficient to drive the line level inputs of any integrated amplifier or pre-amplifier.

audion premier.

The MM phono stage is an active class A stage using a transformer less design, which means matching is very easy. It is far less critical of capacitance, resistance, impedance, inductance or reactance matching that transformer couple RIAA stages normally need.

The Phono MM stage uses NOS Russian 6H23N tubes, it also has a ground lift switch at the rear to assist in resolving grounding issues by floating the ground internally above mains ground.

audio note r-zero.

The R Zero/II represents a new level in affordable yet high quality analogue reproduction. Never before has a phonostage offered this level of sonic performance, innovative design and component quality at such an affordable price.

Internally, it features a pair of 6112WA miniature dual triodes.
